This presentation meets

Maryland’s 2018 requirement for applicants registering for new or renewing CDS registration (Safe Prescribing of Opioids)

and the

Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023

The Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023 stipulates for all DEA-registered practitioners an 8-hour training requirement. Beginning on June 27, 2023, the act requires all renewing and new DEA applicants to testify that they have completed 8 CE hours on the treatment and management of patients with opioid or other substance use disorders.

  • The training does not have to occur in one session.
  • This is a one-time training requirement affirmation.
  • There are a couple of exceptions, so read the DEA's letter if you are a specialty provider or a new graduate.
  • More information from DEA Diversion Control

Learning Objectives

  1. Recognize and diagnose Opioid Use Disorder (OUD).
  2. Evaluate and treat complications of OUD.
  3. Appropriately prescribe medications for the treatment of OUD.
